When it comes to storage, small and medium businesses have a lot in common with large enterprises. Just like the Fortune 400, they need to ensure that data is backed up, retrievable and secure, and that data access complies with governmental regulations. Unfortunately, if you are a small business owner you also cope with some challenges the big guys don't have, budgets are small and your IT staff, if you even have one, may not have storage-specific expertise. Syringa Networks, an Idaho based consortium of twelve independent telecommunications companies, said it has signed a multi-million dollar contract with Movaz Networks, a provider of optical networking solutions.
The two companies will deploy a high capacity, intra-state optical network spanning over 1100 miles to carry both traditional and emerging IP services.
"Rural residential and business customers today need the same high quality broadband services as those in urban areas, and we are committed to providing these advanced communications services to our customers," said Charlie Creason, president of the Syringa board, who is heading the Syringa Networks effort.
Deployment beginning in March, will consist of Movaz's comprehensive RAY product portfolio, including the four cornerstone elements:
RAYexpress for flexible optical service add/drop and aggregation
RAYstar for high density DWDM transport and fully integrated crossconnect
RAYextender for multi-span line amplification
RAYtracer for intelligent end-to-end wavelength management
Bijan Khosravi, CEO and founder of Movaz Networks, said, "The solution we are providing to Syringa is much more than just traditional DWDM transport, it is a solution that will establish a unified optical infrastructure where managed wavelength services can be intelligently routed, groomed and transported from anywhere in the network. We have eliminated the need to deploy back-to-back terminals. We have integrated crossconnect switching capabilities and an embedded GMPLS control plane to offer dynamic wavelength provisioning."
